Don Lucio's Mexican Grill
About This Spot
Don Lucio's Mexican Grill is the kind of neighborhood spot that makes you feel instantly welcomed the moment you walk through the door. Nestled within a lively shopping plaza near the border, its unpretentious setting invites a relaxed pace, where the hum of conversations and the sizzling sounds from the kitchen blend into a comforting soundtrack of everyday life. The atmosphere here balances warmth with energy, making it a natural gathering place whether you’re dropping in for a quick bite or lingering to savor the flavors.
At Don Lucio's, the food unfolds as a genuine expression of traditional Mexican cooking with a thoughtful twist. The kitchen turns out each dish with an honest, handcrafted quality — there’s a palpable care in the way the ingredients come together. It’s in the way a richly layered burrito unites unexpected elements into a harmonious experience, or how tacos carry the essence of classic street fare, elevating humble staples to something quietly memorable.
Behind the counter, there’s a sense of family and history that quietly informs the meal. Conversations hint at personal stories shared by the owner, reflecting roots deeply planted in the heart of Mexican culinary traditions. This connection lends the place an authenticity you don’t often find in larger, more commercial setups. It’s this subtle but sincere spirit that draws locals back, time and again.
The tempo here is casual but steady — orders come out swiftly, but never rushed, leaving room to appreciate the small human moments: the exchange of recommendations, the friendly nods of returning guests, or the careful crafting of sauces and fillings in the open kitchen. Whether you’re seeking a hearty breakfast to start your day or a satisfying meal after a long errand, Don Lucio’s serves up a taste that feels both familiar and distinct, quietly standing out as a cherished local gem.

Damm, this was one of the best burritos I have ever tried, and it was something new and different : 2 in 1, and what a combo it was, I ordered the Tj a carne asada and chile relleno medley that went above and beyond the ingredients were on point and the extra lettuce in there mixed with the cream made for a truly unique taste. I was craving tacos but add one of the most delicious chile rellenos I have ever tried and you got yourself a great meal the service was quick and the place is spotless overall will come again when in the area and try the rest off the menu and encourage you to give them a try.

Stopped by after a trip to the global entry office. About the deep friend papas tacos, our very picky, vegetarian teen daughter said, “These are the best tacos I’ve ever had.” Each item we tried (shredded beef, adobada, polla asada, the hot sauce) was delicious. I wish we didn’t live so far away!

Came here the other day to ship something at UPS, California burrito is better than your average in San Diego. Food came out fast, and I think the cut of beef they use is aranchera. Either way it was really good, and service was good too.

11/22' Cool little taco shop tucked inside a shopping plaza close by the 905 & border. What led me to this was the Xmas outlet they had here by following the sign off otay mesa. Had the adobada burrito. Not the biggest but had plenty of flavor and the red salsa was for around $8. I would visit again if im around

GREAT PLACE TO EAT! The owner, Jorge shared with us his background and how he grew up in his family’s restaurant business. The Beef tacos are soooo good! 10/10 recommend Don Lucio’s!

TLDR: Fresh and hot food, with good variety, good and fast service, good vibes! Fair cost: $12-$15. Very filling. Recommendation: Shrimp Burrito. Food is always hot, the cashier is kind and respectful, variety of food and drinks, quality meats, everything feels fresh, overall an awesome place, it got relatively busy when I went and every time someone left they said thank you. It was also chilly enough inside to keep you comfortable. They had a TV with boxing matches playing so I was entertained. They made sure to keep the tables clean for new customers, my order took about 5 minutes to get out and it wasn't poorly cooked or anything, I'd recommend the shrimp burrito. Great vibes overall! Will definitely come back again :)

I have been searching the area of my new workplace for two months now and just tried this place and it has immediately risen to the best of all the local mexican places. Breakfast burrito was perfect, hot sauce (red/roasted) was easily the best in the area. Will be back to try the rest of their food. No online ordering though, so had to call it in. I recommend calling aprox 15 minutes prior during workweek lunch hours.
